Children can start learning the Alianza syllabus at an early age.
Two courses have been introduced especially for younger children, Curso para Niños and Curso preliminario.
Both courses guide the young student to an early appeciation of Flamenco compas (rhythm)
and style, and include the basic technique for
- Castanets
- Footwork
- Arms, hands, fingers, head and turns
- General posture and style
- Use of skirt for girls
- Palmas (rhythmical clapping)
- Flamenco rhythms and steps for Sevillanas, Rumba, flamenco Tangos, Bulerias
At the end of each course the child will be able to perform a short choreographed dance - Rumba
for Curso para Niños and Guarijas for Preliminario.
Beginners (with little or no experience) can start on Curso 1 (level 1) or Curso 2.
Each level takes approximately 1 year to complete (based on 1-2 hours per week). No previous dance experience is required
although any form of dance experience is of benefit.
Curso Uno & Dos establish sound technique in
footwork, arms, turns, castanets and palmas.
Students begin to develop an understanding of the various Flamenco rhythms and learn to perform
short series of steps in the correct styles for Solea por Bulerias, Malagueñas, Sevillanas, Tientos and Alegrias.
Each Curso includes two choreographies of different styles that the student will learn to perform,
such as Fandangos de Huelva, Tangos, Farruca and Bulerias.
Dancers of an Intermediate level may enter the syllabus at either Curso 3 or Curso 4.
Each level takes approximately 1 year to complete (based on 1-2 hours per week) and further improves the dancers'
techniques to enable them to perform more advanced choreographies using intricate
footwork, turns, castanets, etc.
The dancer obtains a wider appreciation of the Flamenco rhythms and steps including
Caracoles, Tarantos, Sevillanas, Fandangos de Huelva, Siguiriyas and Bulerias.
The choreographies include Solea por Bulerias, Garrotin and Romeras.
Advanced
Once a dancer reaches the levels of Curso5 & 6, he/she is already accomplished
in the technical aspects of Flamenco dance. These levels concentrate on developing performance skills
and an intimate understanding of the styles and rhythms. The length of each course depends on individual
students.
Professional
Curso 7 offers an opportunity for dancers of an advanced or professional level to prepare
and perform their own choreographies or choreographies learnt from Flamenco Maestros in a
theatre environment. The dancer receives a full critical review from the assessors to help him or her
perfect the performance.
